Resilience/Environment Task Force Meeting

February 7 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Resilience/Environment Task Force members:

A meeting of the task force will be held on Wednesday, February 7 at noon in the conference room at Williams Mullen, 222 Central Park Avenue, Suite 1700.  Councilman Joash Schulman will be our guest to speak about his recommendation that City Council organize a Stormwater Implementation Advisory Group.  It would be a “work group to provide recommendations regarding how best to balance the need for stormwater management and flooding protection with development and redevelopment opportunities” and “will be comprised of industry and environmental experts, as well as community members.”

This meeting notice is being sent to Vision’s City Visioning Task Force members as well as the Resilience/Environment Task Force members as it may have implications for the revision of the Comprehensive Plan.  Schulman indicated “that this would be a good forum to revisit the issue of amending our comprehensive plan, as was discussed in 2022 by the prior Council (and ultimately referred to, and voted down by, the Planning Commission).  I recall there was a relatively short timeline between the passage of the referendum and the commitment to amend the comp plan, and I remember hearing some concerns from the Planning Commission and other stakeholders, that a 0.00 standard might have some unintended consequences as we try to engage in redevelopment initiatives in the northern part of the city.“
