The next Affordable Housing Task Force meeting will be on Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at 8:30 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. at Clark Nexsen in Town Center, 4525 Main Street, 14th floor, Virginia Beach, VA 23462. Freddie Fletcher, Senior Development Manager, The Franklin Johnston Group, will be our guest speaker to address the “affordable” housing needs of the city and provide perspectives on barriers that are prohibitive to building accessible housing in Virginia Beach.

The Virginia Aquarium has presented its recommendations to City Council for major renovations to the existing main building and development of significantly expanded exhibit space and parking.  The project will require a large investment by the city as well as a capital campaign.  We will hold a special meeting on-site at the Virginia Aquarium on Thursday, April 20, 2023, beginning at 3:30 p.m. when we will receive a project briefing from Cynthia Spanoulis, followed by small group, behind-the-scenes tours. Please mark your calendar for this special meeting.  More details will be sent via e-mail to task force members as we draw closer to the meeting date.

There will be a public hearing the first week of May to receive comment on the proposed Avangrid project. At our last meeting we heard from Ashley McLeod, Avangrid, about their Kitty Hawk Wind project and their desire to make landfall in Sandbridge.  At this next meeting we will have representatives of the Sandbridge community, John Spallone, Gabriele Mack, and Joe Bourne, as our guests to share the concerns about the project raised by the residents. Please plan to attend so that we have a balanced perspective of the project and its implications for the city.  

The next City Visioning Task Force meeting will be on Thursday, April 27, 2023, at 3:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. at Clark Nexsen in Town Center, 4525 Main Street, 14th floor, Virginia Beach, VA 23462. Vice Mayor Rosemary Wilson will be our guest speaker to share priorities for the city’s future.
